About this deal

In Conclusion, this is a brilliant book with some real shortcomings, so I cannot give it the 5 stars that I wished. But as a whole, it’s a true return to form, and I’m glad Jordan was able to deliver a truly great book after the disaster that was Book 10. I wish Jordan had finished his own vision, but what can you say at that point? I hope Sanderson can carry the torch in a meaningful way. I have numerous complaints about WoT, but there’s a lot of love at the same time. It’s easy to focus on the series shortcomings. I’m still glad I’ve partaken in this journey and am ready to see how Sanderson will deliver on Jordan's vision. So. The Pattern truly was loosening. That meant the Dark One was touching the world more than he had since the War of the Shadow. If it loosened too much before Tarmon Gai’don, the Age Lace might unravel. An end to time and reality and creation. Somehow he had to bring about the Last Battle before that happened. Only he did not dare. Not yet. My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?” The eleventh novel in the Wheel of Time series - one of the most influential and popular fantasy epics ever published. Because it has to be different.” she told him fiercely. She leaned toward him as though ready to launch herself at him. “Because I want it to be different. Because it will be different. Anyway, I don’t know about everything I’ve seen. People move on. I was wrong about Moiraine. I saw all sorts of things in her future, and she’s dead. Maybe some of the other things I saw never came true either.”

Egwene is captured by the White Tower and demoted to novice in an attempt to discredit her. She continues to lead the Rebel Tower, meeting them in Tel’aran’rhoid and refusing rescue despite frequent beatings and punishments. She begins a campaign to spread doubt about Elaida’s reign as Amyrlin. Abandoning Rand’s war against the Dark One, Perrin Aybara has made his own truce with the Seanchan in his obsessive quest to save his wife Faile from the Shaido and destroy their mutual enemies. To achieve victory, Perrin must render the Shaido Wise One channelers in Malden powerless. But even as he puts his desperate plan into action, Masema Dagar, the Prophet of the Dragon, moves against him. After 3 books that went basically nowhere with miniscule plot development FINALLY and I mean FINALLY the story took off and things HAPPENED The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don!” Managan shouted, leaping up so fast he overturned his chair.

Bashere enters, and Rand gives him time to mourn over the fallen Saldaeans. At length Bashere tells him that the Daughter of the Nine Moons will meet Rand in three days at a manor house in northern Altara, and that she will bring six sul’dam/ damane pairs; Rand may bring a matching number of channelers, plus one other. Min takes his arm, and he tells her no; she merely answers that they will discuss it.

Moving along, there are actually good things to say about this book! For one, it's better than Crossroads of Twilight, and thank heavens, although this is akin to saying that getting punched in the kidney is better than being torn apart by sharks. Unfortunately, the depressing stench of that prior book makes all of the dreary, unnecessarily detailed, drawn-out moments that still exist in Knife of Dreams stand out that much worse. Crossroads broke me! Yes, the series has plenty of slow, detestable segments before that, but my heart is now drained of forgiveness. I can still enjoy the good parts. I still want to finish the series (especially since the author baton has been passed at this point). I can praise the good parts of Knife of Dreams. But it does not erase the sins of the past, and neither does it correct some of them. Mr. Jordan finally got his act together and started tying the loose ends which resulted in some great events that really propelled the story in the right direction. And this, fellow bookworms, concludes the series as penned by the original author! Man, did I tear up when listening to that interview with Robert Jordan that is at the end of my audiobook!

New in Series

For this cover, the long, long-awaited eleventh entry in the tens-of-millions-selling Wheel of Time series, the choices of amazing, fantastic settings was boundless. All of these magnificent sights, some inspiring, some terrifying, were available: Speaking of the future: Elder Haman FAILS, apparently. Okay, that’s probably harsh, or something, but man. I’m not clear on how much time passes between this scene and Olver’s scene at the end of ToM, but I’d really have thought finding the Waygates in the major cities, like, oh, say, Caemlyn, would be a top priority. But I’d be wrong, apparently! Sheesh. Nynaeve: Well, sh*t, I continue to love Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. She has one POV in this book, and it’s not even a full chapter, but god, is it brilliant. This is character respected, like she annoyed me here and there but never quite hated her. I did dislike her attitude toward Mat in LoC, but it’s evident from PoD onwards that she does care for him. Even if she was being obnoxious about it. I liked her arc in FoH, which I can tell is polarising for some folks, but it explored her trauma quite well. But yeah, from CoS onwards, I started loving her much more, especially during Winter's Heart, and without any hesitation, joined Rand on his mission, which seems like a suicide mission. And her affection and care for the people close to her are very much felt. But yeah, in this chapter in particular, she was quite sweet. I even liked the romantic aspects with her and Lan, it was quite cute. I do think the set-up for Lan and her relationship is terrible, but being married was the best thing that happened to Nynaeve. I loved her with her conversations here, her affection for helping Rand in his POVs, etc. Despite all her powers, at her core, she is still the Wisdom who wants to take care of her people (and loved ones). Robert Jordan's last entry in his epic Wheel of Time series was one of the best books in the whole series. It had none of the pacing issues that have troubled the previous three to four instalments. The result was we got a WoT book with all the normal good stuff plus a ton of major plot advancements. Right from the prologue this was a fun and engaging read!
