Measuring 7.9 x 4.1 x 5.1 inches (HxWxD), the twin Get Together Duo speakers cut fine figures. With their natural bamboo housings (in keeping with its sustainability theme, House of Marley notes that bamboo is “one of the fastest growing plants in the world”) and “Rewind” fabric coverings (a mix of reclaimed and recycled cotton, hemp, and polyester), the Get Together Duos boast a stylish yet earthy look that matches its other Get Together speakers. It’s worth noting, however, that the dark fabric covering is a lint magnet. [ Further reading: The best smart speakers and digital assistants ] Switching over to The Boss, the Get Together Duos deftly handled Bruce Springsteen’s spare vocals and acoustic guitar strums on “The Ghost of Tom Joad” while warming up for the glowing notes from the synthesizers. I also liked the atmospherics and timbre of Larissa Devoda’s performance of Maurice Ravel’s solo piano words for the Centaur label, as well as the thrilling sweep of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony as conducted by Carlos Kleiber for Deutsche Grammophon. I did not try them with a turntable, but I did use an Astell & Kern SR25 hi-res portable music player. I tried it with the RCA inputs and the 3.5mm aux-in port, and in both instances, I had to max out both the SR25’s and the Get Together Duo’s volume to come even close to what the speakers could do with a wireless source. Even then, it didn’t sound as good as I’d hoped. Should you buy them? The right speaker contains a rechargeable battery so it can operate without any wires for a claimed 20 hours, but the left speaker needs to be plugged into an outlet.

The speakers are very compact, standing only 7.8 inches tall, and they’re shallow enough to fit even the smallest bookcase shelf. Finally, you could take a hybrid wired/wireless approach, using a combination of the RCA/aux inputs and Bluetooth. For example, you could connect (say) a turntable to the left speaker via their wired RCA or auxiliary connectors, and then wirelessly connect the left speaker to the right one via Bluetooth. This gives you a cleaner signal path (one that isn’t affected by Bluetooth compression), but it’s probably only viable when the speakers are relatively close to each other — perhaps spaced apart by only the width of a turntable. Any farther and you’ll have to get a much longer set of cables.
