Meat Loaf and Steinman spent time seeking a record deal; however, their approaches were rejected by each record company, because their songs did not fit any specific recognized music industry style. Although there are some truly deplorable albums near the tail end of Meat’s career, when his voice was thoroughly shot and his choice of collaborators went all goofy (let us not forget that he did a song with Lil’ John and the Sugar Ray guy in 2011), this album is still worse. Continuing in theatre, Meat auditioned for a play being put on by famed impresario Joe Papp. The piece was written by a crazed young composer named Jim Steinman, and in Meat he recognized a talent he’d been searching for to interpret his oddly powerful pop songs, a heady combination of Wagner and Little Richard. From this was born the album that brought the Meat Loaf moniker to attention of the public at large: ‘Bat Out Of Hell’, which has just completed around 293 weeks on the UK LP charts!

[66] I'd Lie for You (And That's the Truth) was a duet with Patti Russo, who had been touring with Meat Loaf and singing on his albums since 1993. Of the twelve songs on the album, two are written by Steinman. Both are cover versions, the "Original Sin" from Pandora's Box's Original Sin album and "Left in the Dark" first appeared on Steinman's own Bad for Good as well as the 1984 album Emotion by Barbra Streisand.
