About this deal

Lens design also had to assure that the image resolution performance would not be degraded even if the aspherical surface was imperfect. Aspherical lens mass production technology, while productivity was much lower than it is today, still existed.

If you need an affordable diagonal fisheye lens, then the Sigma is a perfect choice. Designed with a gel filter holder, the unit is ideal for filmmakers who experience difficulty with high native ISOs. It can also be used for wedding photography to give a more artistic look, scenic photography, and underwater photography. Providing a 180º field of view, the NIKKOR 16mm is the perfect option for photographing interior subjects, broad outdoor subjects, and portraiture with purposely distorted features. The f/2.8 maximum aperture further makes it ideal for low-light photography. The red box added to the table shows the angles that correspond with each half-millimeter as counted away from the zenith (0.0). High School Math Is Useful These are the fisheye lenses in Nikon’s current DSLR lineup. Nikon AF-S 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED Fisheye Zoom Lens The aberration characteristics of this lens are unique. There is very little spherical aberration, and curvature of field is exceptionally flat. The history of fisheye lenses at Nikon is quite old, beginning with the 16mm f/8 fisheye (180 degrees) in 1938. As mentioned above, fisheye lenses are of two types. The model you choose depends on personal preference and the type of photography you’re planning to do. The circular fisheye effect has a barrel-like distortion and provides an angle of view of 180 degrees across the entire periphery. Digitally optimized, the Sigma 15mm primarily stands out to us because of the exaggerated perspective it offers. The distortion aberration and minimum shooting distance of 5.9 inches enable photographers to capture truly creative images, while the innovative multi-layer coating technology reduces ghosting and flare. The 180-degree angle of view further creates stunning image expressions that can only be seen through a camera lens. Note that there are limitations. This lens does not have a built-in autofocus motor and thus relies on the camera’s motor for autofocus. But not all Nikon camera bodies have that built-in. It mainly affects older models and lower models (such as the Nikon D3X00 and D5X000 series in the DX bodies.) The lens will work on those cameras, but it will have to be manually focused. [ ↩]

Resolution at the edges of the frame is increased. A satisfactory level of sharpness is achieved throughout nearly the entire frame. This range of aperture settings seems best for regular use. f/16 to f/22 As shown in Fig. 1., the equidistant projection method used in prior fisheye lenses like the 8mm f/8 and 7.5mm f/5.6 resolved the image on the film so that the light beam angle of incidence was proportional to the image height (distance from the image center). Meanwhile, the diagonal fisheye effect creates an extremely distorted view and offers a diagonal angle of view of approximately 180 degrees. Also called a full-frame fisheye effect, the captured image covers the frame completely. Lens Flare It should be noted that this was the world's first fisheye lens for which the close-range correction system ("floating element" design) was adopted. We'll go into the reasons the close-range correction system had not been considered with previous fisheye lenses later. The result, however, was a consistently high level of sharpness in images captured at shooting distances of infinity to extremely close up.Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy. The maximum aperture is f/5.6, which is a rather small aperture, but the image resolution is extremely sharp even to image corners. It has no focusing mechanism, and the focal length is a short 10mm, so there is no out-of-focus even with close objects. The image will be adequately sharp up through about 50cm (1.6 ft.) from the lens even at maximum aperture.

If you own an APC-sensor and want a Nikon NIKKOR lens, then this unit is the best option. Aimed at those who want to develop unique visual effects, it can be used for close-ups, landscape photography, and for shooting within tight interiors. With a minimum focusing distance of 1.2 inches, it’s capable of giving an entirely new perspective on almost every subject. Vignetting is the darkening of the corners of an image relative to the center of the image. There are three types of vignetting: optical, mechanical, and natural vignetting. Fisheye lenses are of two types – circular fisheyes and full-field diagonal fisheyes. Diagonal fisheyes create an image circle that covers the image sensor completely, resulting in an image that has a full-sized, regular, rectangular shape. I really enjoy shooting with this lens, and I don’t have many complaints about it. But as a practical matter, I’d generally choose the 16mm prime over it. There are a few reasons for that, including that the 16mm is lower-priced, the 16mm is significantly smaller and lighter, the 16mm has a larger maximum aperture, and I simply don’t really need the ability to shoot circular fisheye (I much prefer full-frame). But each photographer’s preferences will differ. Of these, the OP Fisheye-Nikkor 10mm f/5.6 (called the OP Fisheye below) was released in 1968 as the fourth fisheye lens from Nikon, following the 7.5mm f/5.6.This also means, however, that dust and marks on the front lens will show up clearly in the image, so you must protect the front lens against dust and damage. This is the same for all wide-angle lenses with large front lens, not only fisheyes, but at any rate cover the lens when not in use, and carry a blower with you at all times. Work to keep it clean. Now let's consider angle of view for a moment. You may be interested in knowing just how wide a photographic lens's angle of view can extend. As the subject interested me very much, I examined records and patents. I discovered the answer in a book titled, Kameraman no tameno shashin renzu no kagaku (in English, The Science of Photographic Lenses for Photographers), by Shotaro Yoshida. Records show that the widest angle of view was achieved with a 12.3mm f/10 medium-format fisheye lens invented by three people including A. C. S. V. Heel from The Netherlands' National Defense Research Committee (NDRC). It offered an incredible 2ω = 270° angle of view. We do not know whether this lens was actually made, or whether it was simply invented on paper, but it seems to be the lens with the world's widest angle of view. Briefly, the lens has two concave lens elements to reduce the 180-degree view, a cemented lens to correct the resulting aberration, and a 5-element convex lens group consisting of a turret-type filter, stop, and a concave lens group to resolve the image onto the film. Even by today's standards this is a very rational lens layout, and Nikon fisheye lenses since have following this basic design. It seems that the subject field curves farther away as you leave the center. IN other words, focus on something a few feet away in the center, and the distant objects at the sides will be in better focus. Optical vignetting is caused by the physical dimensions of a multi-element lens. Rear elements are shaded by elements in front of them, which reduces the effective lens opening for off-axis incident light. The result is a gradual decrease of the light intensity towards the image periphery. Optical vignetting is sensitive to the aperture and can be completely cured by stopping down the lens. Two or three stops are usually sufficient.

They also found that it controlled flaring very well and had little color fringing and chromatic aberration. However, customers reported that it took some time to get used to the focus, while some found that images in bright light were a bit overexposed. The orthographic projection OP Fisheye, on the other hand (Fig. 2.), resolves the celestial image onto the film. An ultra-wide-angle lens that creates an extremely wide panoramic view, fisheyes have plenty of visual distortion. To put this unit to good use, it’s essential that you fully understand its strengths and weaknesses. Pros Although the Best Nikon D5100 Fisheye Lens: Nikon AF FX Fisheye-NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8Dis incredibly sharp across the entire frame, its performance in low-light conditions is what truly sets it apart from its competitors. The extremely wide angle of view combined with the large f/2.8 aperture enables users to capture sharp photos in incredibly low lighting. This further makes the unit ideal for dimly lit interiors, where using a longer lens would be extremely difficult. Here are some shots I’ve taken with this lens, and you can find my detailed hands-on review here. I took this photo with a Nikon AF-S 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED fisheye zoom lens on a Nikon D850 @ 15 mm and ƒ / 5.6.Along with having practical uses, many photographers adopted the fisheye because of the distorted, unique images it captured. They used it to capture intriguing photographs of numerous subjects, ranging from portraits to still life. In March 1957, two years before the release of the Nikon F, this lens was upgraded to the Fish-eye-NIKKOR 16.3mm f/8 lens, and built into a Weather photography system (Weather Recording System) using 120 format B/W film. Next let's look at some actual results. Details regarding performance at various aperture settings are noted. f/2.8 (maximum aperture)
