About this deal

A lot of architectural prowess thus flows into the design of stadiums, and Santiago Bernabeu is one the most recognisable and important football grounds in all of Europe.

It’s satisfying to say, three stadiums into this collection, that the way you think building 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will go is probably not the way it will actually go. It’s these unusual and unexpected ways of putting together the stadium that also have a way of drawing you in further to understand exactly what detail you’ve just added – because of the risk of an otherwise formulaic, cookie-cutter build experience, 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is smart in ways other LEGO sets don’t have to be, and it’s all the better for it. Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is an experience to put together and a piece of art to behold once built, but there’s no getting away from a second consecutive increase in price. It's funny, because I doubt it'd be as big of a deal or even a deal at all if American men were historically good at football. But because they're not, it's almost like England felt like and some still feel like they need to protect the quintessence of the sport from America or something by trying to separate the same exact sport via name. It's quite literally the definition of gate keeping. As an American I love England, in fact I want to live there someday, but it's such a petty thing to squabble about. Especially considering the fact that America in turn is regularly the team to beat when it comes to the women.Innovation [4]– Some really incredible techniques used here, especially for the different tiers, and just how well everything fits with minimal gaps. Real Madrid fans feeling nostalgic about the redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium will be able to recreate its former, iconic look themselves after LEGO released a construction kit to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the LaLiga club's ground. th February 2022: Today the LEGO Group reveals a stunning homage to one of the most beloved football teams in the world — the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, a faithful replica of the home of Real Madrid. It’s mostly hidden when the build is finished, but I like that the lower level entrance from the towers is finished with tiles; it manages to give that impression of a small tunnel emerging into the grand arena.

Buy if you’re a Real Madrid fan, or if you appreciate large-scale LEGO builds, and stadium architecture. Do not buy for Atletico Madrid, or Barcelona fans. It would make an excellent splurge, or extravagant gift for the Real Madrid fan in your life.Special thanks to the LEGO Group for providing this set for review 10299 Real Madrid Santiago Bernabeu Stadium – Set Details Zooming in on some of the details, the 1×1 peaked roof tiles and transparent blue cheese slopes do an effective job of conveying the separation between stadium tiers and the luxury box suites. The “Real Madrid” logos feel a bit repetitive, but are authentic to the real stadium. The stands are captured brilliantly, and the repetition here is also quite hypnotic. I really appreciated the different angles achieved with each level, and the orange contrasts nicely against the blue. Parts of it are repetitive, especially as many sections of the stadium are mirrored, and it really reminded me of building Old Trafford, but at the same time, it felt quite novel and fresh too. The top of the box has a very nice blueprint-style diagram of the build, and features the team bus as the “1:1 scale element”– the first time I can remember multiple pieces being used, with the exception of minifigures.

Here’s a look at the 2 instruction booklets included. As I received this set fairly late, and only had less than 48 hours to build an almost 6,000 set set to ensure this review could get close to catching the embargo, I was really glad that the 2 books included allows you to build in tandem with a partner. Building any of these stadiums is akin in depth and detail, accuracy and authenticity to an Architecture set, and while they all sit within a similar style of design, the details between each set shape and create unique experiences to each. To that end, 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is the third stadium we are building and it is as interesting to do so as 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United was, and more so than the quite repetitive-by-nature 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona. Unlike the more modern Old Trafford stadium, with different levels, modern roof, and square footprint, I really enjoyed the curves of the Bernabeu – the design (maybe its the tan), reminded me a lot of arenas like the Colosseum, where gladiators did battle. Here’s the view of the front, and when completed, me and my wife were pretty happy with the result – the Bernabeu is a really stunning model, no thanks to its size, but also the repetitive features, and curves on the roof were particularly pleasing to the eye. I remember hearing statistics that the Old Trafford set did not sell well, and I believe that applies to Barcelona too. I'm not sure where I can find the statistics, but I remember hearing that a lot from multiple people"

The pillars that curve inwards are particularly pleasing to the eye, as is the very liberal use of curved slopes and collumns throughout the entrance. The use of colour is fantastic as well, with trans-light blue being used for glass windows to break up the otherwise stoic looking tan columns and pillars. At 5876 pieces, this iconic stadium and landmark is now the 8th largest LEGO set of all time, and follows 2020’s Old Trafford, and 2021’s Camp Nou as the third Creator Expert football stadium where LEGO shines the spotlight on the architectural side of these meccas to football clubs.

Keepability [4]– With the Bernabeu undergoing significant renovations, this one is definitely a keeper, preserving the original look of the Bernabeu that most fans know and love. This is a stadium that is unique in appearance, design and features and importantly, 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium includes enough of the details that make the Bernabéu so recognisable and distinct that the final model also captures the very essence and iconography of this behemoth of a football home. Today the LEGO Group reveals a stunning homage to one of the most beloved football teams in the world — the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, a faithful replica of the home of Real Madrid. Building it is very much in-keeping with construction of 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United and 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona before it, in sections that slot into place around the pitch. This is from the very, very many numbered bags that confront you at the start of the entire process, all the way through to slowly building a quarter of the stadium from the foundations up. Madrid unfortunately couldn’t mark the set’s announcement week with victory in the Champions League, losing 1-0 to PSG in the first leg of their Round of 16 match on Tuesday night. Their next game is at the Bernabéu on Saturday, February 19, where they’ll face 18th-placed Alavés in La Liga.Hot on the heels of fierce rival Barcelona’s LEGO stadium set, 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona (and that won’t have been by coincidence), 10299 Real Madrid – Santiago Bernabéu Stadium offers novelty and intrigue for a series of LEGO models that could otherwise risk falling into a formulaic pattern.
