About this deal

If you're looking for an affordable, entry-level guitar that's uniquely suited to folk music, the Yamaha FG800 offers an attractive choice. It's often hard to find an entry-level guitar with a rich sound. After all, manufacturers have to cut corners somewhere when it comes to price, and all too often, those corners are cut where they shouldn't be: the prevalence of laminate-top beginner acoustics and poorly-made tuners are two glaring examples. At the same time, it is subjected to vigorous strumming with a plectrum ensuring that no matter which model you choose, it will also look great both on stage and in the studio for years to come. Great projection, especially when compared to guitars with a similar design but a higher price tag. They could achieve even better tone, in my opinion, if they used something better than plastic for the saddle and nut. But this is something that you can replace.

Good for advanced players who don’t have the budget for higher-end guitars (they’ll still be happy with the sound they get). Either is a fantastic choice for the beginner to the intermediate player. It would serve its purpose valiantly for years without concern for longevity or build quality.

What's Included:

Sound projection isn’t as strong as in the Dreadnaught FG800 model, though it does stand up well against other guitars.

Strong, stable, and durable, meaning it will withstand the wear and tear that comes with traveling (for those that plan on taking their guitar on the road). However, the instrument is a promising one for beginners and intermediate guitarists alike. With a solid top, balanced high-end and low-end sounds, scalloped bracing, and classic dreadnought looks, the Yamaha FG800 offers surprisingly good tone for the price. In this Yamaha FG800 acoustic guitar review, we'll delve into what sets this instrument apart. Things To Consider Before Buying An Entry-Level Acoustic Guitar This model would also be a bit better in a band situation without being mic’d up, but this is to be expected due to its larger size. Wrapping UpThere seems to be some difference in the quality of accessories, such as the guitar strap, which reviewers say are nowhere near as good as the guitar itself. Fender CD60S : Coming in around the same price, the Fender CD60S is another solid top dreadnought aimed squarely at the beginner guitarist. Great to see a solid top on a guitar this price – and this is one of the reasons why Yamaha manage such good tone at this price. For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs.

How new to playing you are is probably a factor – if you’re starting out, the FG800 is perhaps the best choicebecause it is less expensive, and you’re unlikely to hear the difference in sound you would get with the FG830.

Playing can be a little more difficult due to how close the strings are to each other, meaning you might need to watch your fingering. The bridge and fretboard were both made from walnut, which is a wood that is seeing a lot more use, even in high end models. The grain on the fretboard looked good, and was nice and tight, with no deep pores. We loved the rounded fretboard edges, too, they significantly added to the comfort and playability, and we found ourselves wishing other manufacturers at this price point would do the same.

Even Yamaha’s lower priced guitars tend to have reasonable tone – and the FG800 is no exception. It has Yamaha’s typical nice even tone. It’s nothing exciting or unique but it’s solid and balanced.Straight out of the box, the FG800 is incredibly playable, and most players will find it comfortable. For those who may not be drawn to the large size of the dreadnought, then it’s worth considering the Yamaha FS800.
