About this deal

LEGO Friends was LEGO’s answer to the City theme, but what about a fantasy castle theme? Enter LEGO Elves. I’ve got two articles planned for today, and this is the first – charting the evolution of LEGO themes and sets marketed towards girls, and another that will drop later tonight, so be sure to stay tuned! This ring with two female connections can be used to join pieces stud-to-stud. I cannot think of another LEGO piece that enables this to be done in such a small space.

LEGO found that girls and boys played with Legos differently from one another. They consistently had distinct ideas about how to interact with the same toys they encountered—expectations that seemed to be drawn along gender lines in focus group after focus group. Lego had stumbled into a dynamic that’s as familiar as it is controversial; the idea that boys and girls, from a very young age, construct starkly divergent worlds for play. This ring is used to affix icons with male connectors to thin plastic sheets or cloth components. It fits firmly on a stud. Here I've used a 318 bar/wand to keep them, and 1x1 'polo' plates, together. I can see this being a useful greebling technique. It's a bit like Galidor: in itself, Clikits is a nice toy that does well what it's designed to do: decorate various objects. The range of types and colors of Icons is massive, and surprisingly not really uber-pink, so if you're into decorating, this theme has you covered. My 6-yo enjoyed the large frame a lot. So I can't fault the design team, they did a good job on Clikits... if it was produced by any other toy company. I can link it to ZNAP: in itself a great product, but for me it needs more connection to SYSTEM to be seen as LEGO. In that regard, DOTS is doing a much better job.

What are you going to make with them?

This part is used for bracelets. It has a single female connector in the middle underneath and might make a nice greebly part for a pink spaceship. Flamingo Pink was only used in 2006 in three Clikits sets. Suitably, it was used for the flamingo element you can spot in the first image in this article. Despite its relatively modest lineup (only 18 sets were released in total), Paradisa is an iconic LEGO theme, and has earned a soft spot in many LEGO fans’ hearts. 4. Belville (1994 – 2008) Surprisingly, the theme only lasted one year, and no sets were released in 2018. 11. Dots (2020-Ongoing) It’s been really interesting to see the shift in their approach, and personally, I really like how LEGO Friends has expanded beyond typically “girly” town-settings like Bakeries to include more adventurous themes like Jungle/Animal Rescue and Underwater Exploration.

Here’s a list and brief history of LEGO’s efforts to creating themes that could be geared towards girls, and how their efforts have evolved over the years. 1. Homemaker (1971-1982)

So, to summarise, Clikits parts with female connections can be used effectively, and legally, with System parts. Those with male ones can be connected into anti-studs, but only at risk of damaging the part if it remains affixed for long periods. Since inception, LEGO has had to shake its perception as a “boy’s construction toy”, even though both boys and girls enjoy expressing their creativity through LEGO.

Finally, here's a Clikits ring with 1x1 polo plate in its female connector, and a flower with 318 bar connector in its hole. So, with the added build-functions of the 7532-1, does this change my mind? Well, no, not really. Yes, the set offers a form of build, but it still doesn't offer the feel and looks of a LEGO build. Without a link to SYSTEM parts other than some of the holes being anti-stud size, the connection to LEGO is minimal at best. What I love about LEGO, is the rich history the brand has. Even though I've been an admin here for 6 years now, and LEGO is a daily part of my life, I still run into things that are new to me. I'm sure others will have the same experience. And with this long history, there are bound to be themes and products that have you wondering: Is this LEGO?LEGO® Clikits was very popular with girls around the world. It was a great success and new sets were released every year. In 2006 the range was expanded to include a variety of other merchandise such as bags, pens and watches. But in 2009, despite all the successes that had been had, LEGO® Clikits was discontinued. In our newsletter you will receive weekly information about LEGO®. We search for the coolest and most surprising LEGO® MOCs to build, tell you the most interesting LEGO® facts and show you the most beautiful LEGO® creations of other LEGO® fans. So sign up for our newsletter. There are several theories as to why LEGO® Clikits was eventually discontinued. Some think the range was not profitable enough, while others think the series was not popular enough with older girls and teens. Still popular Finally, LEGO Dots. This theme featured the return of LEGO jewellery/stationery, and in my opinion is the most successful version yet. She doesn’t enjoy playing with Ninjago vehicles, or cars, but loves constructing different “worlds”, featuring Friends minidolls, minifigures, animals and houses. She explicitly prefers Minidolls over Minifigures as she better relates to them.

Introduced in 2015, LEGO Elves featured the reappearance of minidolls, but had a fantasy/medieval focus. The most obvious use of the icons, then, is as decorations. They work well with the 2x2 tile with one centre stud. The male connector is very slightly larger than a stud, due to the lip round the top that holds it securely in the female connector. It will just fit into an anti-stud if you give it a push but it will be under stress. As a dad to a bright 4-year old daughter, I’ve had the privilege of watching this play out over the last few years, as she’s (naturally) began to appreciate the ridiculous amounts of LEGO lying about my house.
