I made 2 batches of my cream cheese buttercream in a beautiful shade of light purple to frost the whole cake. Then another batch a bright yellow for the braid. I flavored each batch with lemon extract. See prior post.

I made this beautiful cake for my granddaughter Zoe’s 3rd birthday. She requested a “Rapunzel” cake – part of her love of all things “Princess”!! In fact, a REAL PRINCESS was invited to her party – how fun was that?? I think I might have impressed myself with this one. At least at 2 a.m. when I finished up, I thought it might be my best culinary masterpiece to date. room temperature eggs (you can speed this process up by putting them in a bowl of hot – not boiling – water for 5 minutes)Today I am trying to make a Belle cake BUT my sons friend wants a vanilla cake. I use the Traditional Vanilla Bithday cake recipe from the same book but the cake fell. The middle simply did not bake evenly ;(

Next up? The sleeves. Her dress has sheer sleeves. Since I can’t get completely sheer I did roll it out as thin as I could, see… You can see the writing through the fondant. Cut it down to strips, about the width of the arm. Paint it with clear vanilla and carefully wrap it around her arms. Trim the edges under the arm!

Instead of waiting until that evening to reveal the cake to the Princess, I showed it to her when she woke up the morning of her actual birthday. I figured she could appreciate it longer that way.
