About this deal

The Fahgettaboudit uses higher-quality materials than the OnGuard Brute, which justifies its more expensive price. If you can afford the extra money, the Fahgettaboudit will last you longer. The LITELOK X1 uses Barronium, a patented anti-grinder technology that contains tiny ceramic particles. But it’s eye-wateringly expensive. It’s also a lot heaver than the Litelok X1, it doesn’t come with a frame mount for easy transport, and it’s significantly smaller, which means it may not be suitable for many cyclists. By encompassing all of your bike’s most expensive components with its 5.5mm hardened TREDUR steel plates, most bike thieves won’t stand a chance. The on-bike mount is tidy and doesn’t rattle over bumps when mounted to the bottle bosses Matthew Allen / Immediate Media

And that makes a big difference when you’re carrying it about and even trying to get it round your bike. The 70 cm of internal space is more than enough for me in the vast majority of situations.German engineering is known to be some of the best in the world, and attention to detail is cleary something ABUS do well. Or you could even secure it around your top tube and then use other methods to protect your wheels. The frame mount is a simple plastic cradle which you can either screw into the holes in your frame that are designed for a water bottle cradle (the screws and hex key are included), or fasten anywhere on your frame using plastic ties (also included).

Another nice feature of the mount is that it’s entirely rattle free. The tight fit means a silent ride, which I know is very important for many! The Forever also uses an automatic keyhole cover that slides shut when the key is removed from the cylinder. It’s outside night and day in all weathers and it’s never once let me down over the 8 years I’ve been using it.I like the fact that I don’t need to remember to close a cover manually. And these type of covers seem to reduce disc misalignment when the key is exiting, which is something that can be really annoying.

And in my first test, all the discs I had, actually wore out before I could cut through the other side of the Litelok X1! So I didn't manage to defeat it at all. Jessie-May Morgan is the UK & Ireland Tech Editor of Bikerumor. She has been writing about Mountain Bike Riding and Racing, and all its weird and wonderful technology for 4 years. Prior to that, she was an Intern at the Mountain Bike Center of Scotland, and a Mountain Bike Coach and Leader in the Tweed Valley. So not much lighter. And it’s less secure and around the same price, so the small weight saving is probably not worth it!i changed my thoughts on my first comment, the kryptonite insurance thing isn’t so great, for me or others who have a fully custom built bike i imagine they wouldn’t cover it somehow For Bikerumor, Jessie-May is testing the latest mountain bikes, equipment and kit, letting readers know what’s hot and what’s not. Alternatively, the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit or OnGuard Beast chains are also good, but won’t be quite as secure.
