I'm liking Athonian Camoshade as a wash over the retributor spray, especially when paired with highlights of Liberator Gold and a 50/50 mix of Liberator Gold and Stormhost Silver. However, I may either need to let my pot dry out a tiny bit or get another; it goes on fairly light for me and seems to produce "rings" in the recesses if doing a targeted wash. Alternatively, I might try mixing with a bit of Agrax. It’ll take a few coats of airbrushing to get solid, even coverage. But it’ll be easy going. Drybrush the darker metal areas with Ironbreaker, and highlight the lighter areas with Scale 75 Heavy Metal. The thinner is mixed about 1:10 (more gold metallic paint to less thinner). It doesn’t take much to thin the Retributor Armour paint. Make sure you shake your pot before you mix it with any thinners. The metallic flakes do tend to settle if the pot is left sitting around for a while. Finally… I say finally, there’s still a lot of work on them now, as they’ve got a lot of small parts that I haven’t done yet, so start to finish, here’s how I did each section. Retributor The next step is the real secret sauce. I created a reasonably dilute wash with a mix of Golden High Flow Acrylics Sepia (pretty much a more concentrated Agrax Earthshade), Golden High Flow Acrylics Dioxazine Purple, and the product formerly known as Future Floor Polish (Now Pledge Floor Care Finish, unless they’ve changed it again.) I wash the entire model in this color, removing excess where it pools too much. If you are working with Games Workshop paints, a mix of Druchii Violet, Agrax Earthshade and water/lahmian medium will work just fine. You will, however, be spending a lot more money to wash an entire army of Custodes using this method. At this point the gold is complete. It’s simple, but has a nice rich depth and purplish warmth to it. You can either mix the paint and thinner together outside of the airbrush reservoir, or within the airbrush (not recommended). In either case, make sure you’ve got the solution mixed well.

I have some characters in my 30k Ultramarines army that I intend to do mainly in Gold. These will be the Praetor and the Company Command Squad (basically the Praetor's Honor Guard). If you start painting with the spray, you can’t reliably use the paint pot version to touch-up your models. Bummer. It’s kind of a frustrating experience when you first learn this. I don't have any Sanguinary Guard to show how a full gold model would look like, but parts and pieces might give you an idea.

In step 4 above switch the Vallejo metal color gold and Vallejo metal color chrome mixture to Scale 75 cintrine alchemy.Hair – Added Fire Dragon Bright to Mephiston Red and highlighted the hair, then added a little more Fire Dragon Bright and highlighted the highlights.
