About this deal

The false rejection is also much better than the previous generation and even beats the Redline 360c. Bluetooth Functionality Highly customizable, great false alert filtering, mute/mark buttons on the front, long-range, Bluetooth connectivity, Gatso detection, improved MRCD detection, fast response time Most people don’t need stealth capabilities, myself included, but if this capability is of critical importance to you, you may want to consider choosing another detector. Bluetooth The appearance and design configuration of the R8 is a nice improvement over the R7 and appears more upscale. The R8 appears more substantial than the R7. The R8 (pictured on the left, is slightly wider, but slightly smaller in length to the R7 (pictured on the right).

My heartfelt congratulations goes to Uniden America for continuing to push the envelope of what’s possible in a detector. We don’t have any hesitation in continuing to take it on our long trips or recommending it to others. The R8 also has built-in bluetooth capability to interface with future smart phone applications, the specifics of yet has not yet been announced. The configuration features will eventually appear in a future firmware update.I generally select the speed and compass display mode. When driving in Canada (where posted speeds and distances are in the metric system) I select KM/H over MPH speed display. Audio Behavior Alert Tones Uniden’s re-entry into the radar detector industry several years ago has shaken the industry up big time.

This Uniden R8 review is based upon personal driving of many thousands of miles and lots of real-world police radar encounters. In my twenties, my radar detector was a must. Now, I don't even get a second glance while shamelessly neglecting posted speed limits. Hell, some of the local police even wave at me. I had one recently, who I thought was going to pull me over; just happened to be going to the same place I was and then talked to me in the parking lot about how much he liked my car. Compared to the V1 Gen2 and Redline 360c, things vary depending on the radar frequency and settings, but of course all those detectors offer long range performance. As I drive towards a radar source, the R8 does a better job of progressively ramping up in signal strength than the RL360c. The Redline likes to scream aggressively well before I’m actually in range of the radar gun. Additionally it does the goofy Escort thing of ramping down slightly and going quiet for a bit before the signal strength jumps and the detector suddenly starts alerting more aggressively. The R8 is more progressive and linear so the ramp-up is more useful and informative. Why does such a high end unit not have an app already developed for it ? And when will the Bluetooth be enabled? How can an app be developed when the detector can’t utilize it yet ? The R8 has a 12 different alert tones each of which can be assigned to the specific band or type of radar and laser. My recommendations for tone selection are: As always, this is just one test. Please don’t take these results alone as gospel. We need to see lots of tests with lots of detectors against lots of guns in lots of different terrains to get an accurate sense of the big picture. These test results are simply one part of the overall puzzle. Detectors Tested It’s inability to be detected by Spectre RDDs should give drivers of radar detectors in banned areas piece of mind.
