About this deal

I have some more average pictures and boring 2022 fishing tales to come, but for now. I think this is more than enough... The Towey was probably rated as the absolute go to destination for Sea Trout and again the reports couldn't even begin to cover all the fish caught. It’s a little-known part of Ireland’s heritage but many angling shops in Ireland in the late 1800s and early 1900s employed ‘fly dressers.’ Some were considered masters of their craft, thanks to their skills, creativity and the traditional methods that they used.

The ever patient Mrs Knollington sanctioned a visit to Lochmaddy on our first morning. I arrived at the hotel in time for the morning fishing allocation and selected a tidal pool on the excellent recommendation of John Docherty - who allocates (and runs) the fishing on behalf of the North Uist Estate. I chose the Geirreann Sea Pool, sadly family commitments prevented me fishing the fall of the tide and I got there late. I didn't fish again in North Uist, but we did have a great time before heading down to Benbecula, no fishing here either, but some great Seafood and some of the best sandcastles ever built. Funny you mention the Finn. I was just thinking about a wee man this morning and I can't remember his name. This would have been the anniversary of seeing him at the Faughan every year. He fished the Finn hard till it closed on the 15th September, then he'd appear at the Faughan for the rest of the season. A damned good angler he was too and really nice chap. He must have had some tally of Salmon at the end of every season. gave it a couple of hours either side of high. not expecting much due to the ground swell but had bites on every cast from whiting and dogs. maybe other things too but that's what i landed. By popular request, a thread on bikes old and new, memories, trips, anything! It has been clear from other threads that there are some keen cyclists on here.

That's what we do at Ross. It's hard enough fishing for salmon these days we've got to share intel to put us on the water as the fish go through. If a person puts the time in and learns the craft of catching salmon by reading the river, learning about the way nature works and understanding about rises and falls in both river level and temperature then massive respect to them. Traditional Irish salmon flies, commissioned one hundred and twenty years ago for the Cork International Exhibition in 1902, are set to feature in a new historical picture book to mark ‘World Book Day’. Ross probably like many other fisheries has its one season fly by nights who take a permit expecting the salmon to come to them but we have lost some committed salmon anglers who for one reason or another have decided to throw in the towel on the Wye. We will also be showcasing the work of Charles Jardines Fishing for Schools charity and the The Wild Carp Trust....

Scottish Rivers | Salmon Fishing Forum

This is a Forum to promote the very important work of our qualified guides instructors and their courses etc. The first was 'how many different species have you caught on the fly ' with the follow up question ' and which was your favourite ' We are experiencing the collapse in the number of salmon anglers posting on here. Last year by this time we had 70 posts, this year, there are 7 posts. No doubt there is a multitude of factors... predators, forestation, road run off, pollution and over fishing at sea and dont get me started on 'Fish Farms"... the list goes on and on! Shane O'Reilly of Inland Fisheries Ireland with Irish Fly-tier Peter Kealey at the launch of the publication of the 1902 Cork Fly CollectionForum to discuss angling from kayaks, canoes, portabotes and other coastal craft. Small boat and kayak angling in Ireland. This is a seldom openly discussed but important part of salmon fly fishing set up so here's my own analysis of the facts as far as I see it on weight and length of salmon leaders, sink tips and which leader material will never let you down. Are Salmon Leader Shy? A new thread for all news, views, catches, reports in 2023 for the wonderful Ribble, Hodder and many tributaries.

Salmon Fishing Forum River wear 2023 | Salmon Fishing Forum

A forum to discuss casting techniques and events. For the angler wishing to increase his distance and the tournament caster. The World Salmon Forum’s mission is to sustain wild Atlantic and Pacific salmon, seatrout, and steelhead populations for the future. Salmon diversity and abundance are a gift from the past through millions of years of evolution and adaptation. Our collective stewardship should ensure that wild salmon remain a legacy for future generations. I rarely fish Barvas, but still do a bit on Garynahine. I spend more time out in the dead of night looking after fish on the island nowadays. Every year, going to work on the 16th September, you'd be guaranteed to see his wee Honda 90 scooter parked up at the same place. It got me thinking,,, there must be times,,, more than once,, that you have all, had to rethink on a trip Over a hundred years after the Cork International Exhibition took place, interest in the collection was re-ignited by angling author, the late E.J. ‘Ted’ Malone, who described the collection as a “long lost treasure of Irish Angling”. Malone worked alongside Peter Kealey and Peter Dunne, all fly tying experts, to meticulously examine, photograph and record the various fly dressings. Sadly, Ted Malone passed away in 2017 and the book is dedicated to his memory. Love the comment above about the Lune and not wishing to swap it for Terra Del Fuego perhaps as I feel exactly the same way about my beloved Dwyfor and the nice folk who live down there? (Given how beautiful the area is, why wouldn’t you end up as being anything other than nice lol) G K let me say from the off, there's nothing average about any of your adventures at all. Many I'm sure would have been gagging for such an average time last year. The Yorkshire Esk is a river known for its sea trout and has the same run of large fish that you can expect on the Wear and other East Coast rivers. And yet the Angling reports from that river have usually been about fish caught on the mepps as I believe that river has a muddy colour that only in really low water has the clarity to fish the fly at night.
