About this deal

The flash settings on the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX800 are Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Forced Flash On, Slow Sync./Red-eye Reduction and Forced Flash Off. These shots of a white coloured wall were taken at a distance of 1.5m. Use a card with SD Speed Class with "UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3)" when recording motion pictures with [MP4] in [4K] or [4K PHOTO]. RAW, RAW+Fine, RAW+Standard, Fine, Standard/MPO+Fine / MPO+Standard (with 3D lens in Micro Four Thirds system standard)

The Panasonic Lumix GX880, like the GX800, is a compact and lightweight mirrorless camera, particularly with the 12-32mm lens. The camera offers a 16mp sensor, 4K video recording, and 4K Photo. The tilting touch-screen will be useful for selfies, and vloggers, and the built-in Wi-Fi makes it easy to transfer photos and remotely control the camera. Thanks to the Micro Four Thirds lens mount, the camera is compatible with a huge range of lenses. Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds with [AVCHD] in [FHD/25p] [FHD/24p] and [MP4] in [FHD/30p] [FHD/25p] [HD] Europe. Macro performance of the kit lens is a weakness, with the closest focusing distance 20cm from the lens, and for more serious macro photography a different lens is recommended. When shooting with the sun in the frame it is possible to see some lens flare, however, this wasn't a huge issue the majority of the time.

The Panasonic Lumix GX800, or GX850 as it’s known in North America, is an entry-level mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Announced in January 2017, it replaces the GF7 and is aimed at anyone upgrading from a phone or compact camera for better quality, control and flexibility. Like all of Panasonic’s mirrorless cameras to date, it’s based on the Micro Four Thirds system which means it works with any lens designed for that format, including a wealth of options from Panasonic and Olympus. Panasonic typically sells the GX800 / GX850 in a kit with a 12-32mm / 2.7x kit zoom that’s equivalent to 24-64mm in coverage, giving you slightly wider angle capabilities than most kit lenses.

Above left: Retro effect, above right: Old effect. The Lumix GX800 / GX850 offers a wealth of effects, some subtle, some not so subtle. Here’s of six of them for your delectation. Colours directly from the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX800 in JPEG images are warm and nicely saturated. They require little to no adjustment, which is excellent news for an entry-level offering. The camera uses an electronic shutter over 1/500s, which is worth noting when shooting in artificial light. The shutter is very quiet. The screen is very clear and has good viewing angles, with additional controls that can be found on the screen. For [4K] video output, use an HDMI cable that has the HDMI logo on it, and that is described as"4K compatible".

Ease of Use

And here are some portrait shots. As you can see, neither the Flash On setting or the Red-Eye Reduction option caused any amount of red-eye. Use a card with SD Speed Class with "UHS-I UHS Speed Class 3 (U3)" when recording motion pictures with [MP4] in [4K] or [4K PHOTO]. (SD speed class is the speed standard regarding continuous writing.) Use a card with SD Speed Class with "Class 4" or higher when recording motion pictures in [AVCHD] or [MP4 (under 28Mbps)].

Capture scenes carefree or at the spur of the moment. The optical image stabilisation (O.I.S.) technology built directly into the lens ensures your photos will look great, with sharp blur-free contours across the entire picture. That’s because this technology immediately compensates the kind of minor movements and vibrations that can so easily occur in photography. But you won’t notice any of this – all you’ll see are wonderfully crisp images. Use a card with SD Speed Class with "UHS-I UHS Speed Class 3 (U3)" when recording motion pictures with [MP4] in [4K] or [4K PHOTO].In fact, other than the smattering of improvements that have been made to the camera's already impressive range of selfie modes, designed principally for the Asian market, there's very little to reason to consider the Panasonic GX880 instead of the GX800, unless the pricing is the same or very similar. Level Gauge, Real-time Histogram, Guide Lines (3 patterns), Center Marker, Highlight display (Still image / motion picture), Zebra Pattern (Still image / motion picture) Users can utilise the 4K PHOTO technology to capture fleeting photo opportunities at 30 fps by extracting the best frame out of a 4K burst file to save as a photo. In 4K PHOTO, three modes can be chosen from depending on the situation; 4K Burst, 4K Burst (Start/Stop) and 4K Pre-burst. All of these functions in 4K PHOTO let the user save pictures in 8-megapixel equivalent high resolution, which is good enough for printing in A3 size, and help to avoid missing those spur-of-the-moment shots. For advanced users, the LUMIX GX880 is capable of developing RAW images inside the camera. In addition to the colour space setting (sRGB/ AdobeRGB), the parameters for white balance, exposure compensation, contrast, highlight/shadow, saturation, noise reduction, and sharpness can be flexibly adjusted and LUMIX’s Photo Style, Intelligent D-range Control, and Intelligent Resolution can also be applied.
