Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award. This was quite good. My only real complaint was that the author released the information of that summer VERY slowly. On the other hand, it built suspense rather well. This author has a good writing style, and I will be watching for more of her books. PS : - Bullies are a true pain in the ass. But they will be defeated in the end, no matter how much they boss around you😁🤭 So just keep Calm & wait😉

The Best Sleepover in the World: The long-awaited sequel to

I also thought the vagueness in the ending...taking forever to find out who survived etc made the story stutter. The conclusion would have worked better being more simplistic and straight forward. Read our review of Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx Non-fiction Mummies Unwrappedby Tom Froese (Nosy Crow) Lily Lily is Daisy's older sister whose brain was damaged when she was born and unable to walk or talk. Lily's starting attendance at a new special school prompted Daisy to start at the new school; it is established that the girls' family moved away so Lily could attend. Despite Daisy feeling initially resentful towards her, she genuinely loves Lily and cares greatly for her. Some of the children at Daisy's old school called Lily horrible names whenever they saw her in the street (and they called Daisy names too). Lily has a fear of teddy bears. Liam is persistent, and soon Hannah's defenses slowly wear down, and she lets him in. His loveable dog Tank has helped. Can she trust him? I think telling us the exact events that happened a year ago, rather than just snippets would have really helped. I think we needed to understand Isobel more and if we saw the full event of what happened on that fateful day, a year ago, we may have had a better grasp on why she was the way she was. I understand that dropping snippets of information is a common storyline feature but I think it was harmful to the flow of the story here because that was information we required rather than just being interested in.Daisy is afraid of having a sleepover party herself as she fears the girls, particularly Chloe, will be uncomfortable about her sister Lily. She tells her Dad about Chloe and he suggests not inviting her but her Mum insists it's only fair since Daisy went to Chloe's. Daisy's mum then said Chloe had automatically been invited after her mum phoned out of concern after the sleepover because Daisy didn't eat anything and then Daisy's mum told her she would be having a sleepover party herself. When Amy, Bella and Emily meet Lily they are very understanding and kind about her. Chloe is very gloomy and rude when they all play party games together with Daisy's Dad. The girls all sleep in a big tent in the garden and have a lot of fun. Chloe wakes Daisy in the middle of the night to take her to the loo. When they get upstairs, Lily, who is awake, wails loudly upon hearing them and scares Chloe, causing her to wet herself and she decides to return home that night. It irks me when a title of a book doesn’t truly match the story - The Sleepover had me thinking there was a single event that took place that this story would be built around, it is not that way, and we are never really given the full picture but rather broken up pieces. This left me feeling very unsatisfied.

I also think the story would have been helped by more fleshed out characters....I didn't really understand Katie's betrayal or why she stopped caring about Isobel and what happened with Craig fully. I think fleshing out those storylines would have been better early on...for us to give us something about the characters to work with. I felt by the halfway point that I didn't really know much about anyone. Chloe tries to not invite Daisy to her sleepover party by falsely claiming "her Mum won't let her have four invites", but Emily, Amy and Bella refuse to come unless Daisy comes too, causing an argument between them. In the end Chloe gives in and lets Daisy come. At Chloe's party they make pizzas but Chloe sabotages Daisy's pizza by covering it with anchovies which Daisy hates - she then says that they'll make sure Daisy's piece of birthday cake has a special anchovy filling when it comes to cake time, which causes Daisy to decline to eat any. They then watch very scary horror movies which causes Daisy to stay awake all night in fear. Aside from her fears concerning her sister's disability, Daisy also feels as though she does not fit into her circle of friends completely as she is the only one who does not have a best friend within the group, and on top of that, the bossiest girl in the group, Chloe, is determined to turn the girls against Daisy.Sleepovers by Jacqueline Wilson focuses on a group of 5 young girls, two sets of best friends; Amy and Bella and Chloe and Emily, and the newest addition to the group - Daisy.

The premise had me hooked and I knew I needed to read it. It was a pretty good book, it kept me hooked trying to figure out what happened. with THE SLEEPOVER —A dark and spine-chilling psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat with one eye open, afraid of what will happen next. I know these type of books are showing someone at the worst time in their lives but I really struggled with the characters in this one. Pesta Menginap (Sleep-Overs) ini bercerita tentang lima gadis SD bersahabat yang secara kebetulan namanya berurut sesuai abjad.

This story started off so slow, it finally gained my attention but took a while to get there. I was interested in finding out exactly what happened and how the characters came through it, and who they were now. This article does not cite any sources. Questions arise and fingers are pointed as we are thrown different scenarios and red herrings to throw us off the scent as Izzy searches for the truth about what happened to her son. As the reader, we suspect just about everyone along the way as the story threw us twist after twist! I adore the colour palette of this book: dusky pinks, terracotta reds and sandy yellows. The naïve, angular illustrations are full of character and the text has an attractively simple style. Expect children to regularly look up with gleeful exclamations of ‘Hey, did you know…?’ Read our review of Mummies Unwrapped Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs by Kathy Allen (Raintree)

I have heard good things about Keri Beevis so I thank Boldwood books for a copy of her latest offering The sleepover. First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Boldwood Books and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Each of the five girls stage a sleepover for their birthday, however, Daisy is the most reluctant to have a sleepover at her house because she fears the reaction of the other four girls when they find out that her sister Lily has a disability. Children are intrigued by Tutankhamun, and this is a splendid picture book. It covers the life and times of the boy king, the discovery of the tomb and the dramatic aftermath. A nine-year-old can pore over this enthralling edition for a very long time. Chloe The main antagonist who is spoiled by her proud parents. She is a cruel, bossy bully who thinks she can have anything she wants. She takes a dislike to Daisy and constantly torments her, calling her "Daisy Diddums." The start is frenetic, the ending too, but the middle is delivered at a quite slower pace which did feel a little clunky. It also flits about in time a bit along the way, including quite a few reminiscences, some of which took a while to get to grips with. I also had a few queries with plot points along the way but all of these were explained to my satisfaction by the end of the book. The plot itself was intense and harrowing and included quite a few themes, including social media, peer pressure, bullying, and showed what a scary world our children have to grow up in these days.
