About this deal

If the firmware has become corrupted and the copy of the current release of the firmware held on hard disk is also corrupted then it may have to rely on the copy of the base firmware that the box was manufactured with? That said, the YouView+ experience from BT is not only sleeker and faster than before, it offers more channels and more catch-up content than before too.

What the review does not mention concerning IPTV channels is that it picks up very few of the 225-260 IPTV channels that are in the freeview guide and those it does take a very long time to switch over to. So I think from this we can conclude the HDD is almost certainly dead as the box works just as well (not at all) with it as without. Its failed recordings were identical to what happens on a Humax freeview+ box if 2 of the commercial muxes were sourced from an alternative transmitter. I have tried the first “software reset” mode, which did no good, but it refuses to do the factory reset without deleting recordings option. Tried maintenance mode, software repair brings it back to the loop, factory resets with keeping the recordings failed.

Below is a photo of the original YouView drive which is a 500Gb Western Digital disk from their AV-25 range. The actual BT element only really impacts on the experience when you step into the sections that BT adds to the mix. I’ll just endorse a couple of points made by Keri above – the sticky pad holding the original drive had me cursing, and a bit of firm persuasion was required to get the drive out. It has no built in WIFI, but you can attach a cheap USB powered WIFI router like the TP-LINK TL-WR702N to work in 'client mode' IIRC. I’ve just fitted the hard drive recommended in the instructions but cannot get into Maintenance mode.

If you select one of the genres, it will open to a page with picture tiles where you can explore all the content for this genre in one place. Same issue as most, strange noises during boot after power failure, probably rendered hard drive corrupt. This is broken down into categories, but essentially there's a range of subscription or on-demand content accessed via this route too. We've been living with the new Humax box upgrade to see whether it makes BT's YouView experience more compelling than before. It does work if you run into problems, but be warned in cases can totally jam your box if a hardware fault.Note: Replacing the hard drive in your YouView box means you might lose all the recordings on your old hard drive. You can either subscribe to this or pay per view, and there’s a handy shortcut – the green button on the remote – that filters the view so you see only content that’s included in your package. We've used the BT-supplied Powerline adapter for the Ethernet connection too, which works well enough for most of the catch-up services.

BT YouView+ box review - Tech Advisor

Followed your instructions, (very easy to follow) and but for a reluctant disconnect on the hard drive, piece of cake. The biggest change with the T2100, however, is that the YouView EPG is much faster than it was on the T1000.I came home and my DTR T2100 was on with a blue light showing, but the TV wasn’t receiving a signal from it and it didn’t respond to the remote or any button presses. Since retuning using aerial in/out to force it to retune from just one transmitter it has been very reliable for TV programmes. There's still plenty of confusion around what you might have to pay for, though, as well as the integration of BT TV services with wider YouView staples. do you know if these boxes are equipped to format a new HDD or do they expect it to already have the OS on it?

Had a beeping BT DTR T2100 box which wouldn’t load past the start up screen following a power off and on. It's a flat cable too, so many could probably run it under the carpet for a direct line into the router for the best results - it's also a necessity for some of the internet-delivered channels.

There's potential to make it far more exciting by offering controls over the network, for example, so you wouldn't need to grab the remote, or to offer wider second-screen choices. Thanks Richard, yes as long as all the partitions are deleted off the used hard disk by a PC the YouView box will then create its own partitions. The power on button still worked but the “down” one didn’t, so the maintenance mode prompt never appeared. I can't for the life of me find out what versions of HDMI/HDCP the BT box needs to find at the end of the HDMI connection - the Denon is HDMI 1. The only advantage of the mini keyboards is that none of them have an'insert' key, which when connected to a YouView box is equivalent to pressing the info button on the remote.
