I didn't know until I got this that it had the visor that goes over his eyes when he sees the Decepticons in the movie I was not expecting that little feature. It also comes with a built-in repair tool that can be flipped out from the wrist and a detachable circular saw with a spinning blade that pegs onto the other wrist on the same section. Hot rod has been a personal top favorite for me since I started getting into transformers and I am so glad that this figure has been able to do him justice. This is all of the poseability you get: Hot Rod’s elbows can move forwards and backwards, and side to side. The only bit of hollowness, unfortunately, is in the midsection, which has a big hole in it when viewed from the side. The other little gimmick is the Rubsign on the roof, a black and white sticker that you can rub to reveal Hot Rod’s hidden, true allegiance (spoiler: It’s Autobot). In the London Escape scene from Transformers: The Last Knight, Hot Rod diverts the authorities as Bumblebee races to the Royal Navy Submarine Museum. Articulation is solid and isn’t inhibited by transformation at all, the leg even includes a double knee joint (albeit for transformation). These are minor complaints, and I have to say, as someone who's been collecting these off and on since a kid, this is probably one of my Top 5 favorites of all time.

So, Hot Rod’s vehicle mode is a swoopy, curvy concept car, with a big, exaggerated spoiler in the back, giant chromed exhaust pipes down the sides, and a big engine block up front. Vehicle mode is very nice looking and next to no kibble hanging out, even looking at the bottom of the vehicle mode is nice as the only real section that is very easy to see is the hands. Transformation with this little guy is worth every penny, mostly accurate to the show giving a nostalgic feel with the only liberties taken being for the sake of how the transformation feels in the long run. The main colorscheme is a deep, burgundy red, at odds with the somewhere-between-magenta-and-pink coloration in Transformers: The Movie. The car mode is just awesome and the robot mode has many features including putting on sunglasses or whatever they are and he has a buzz saw as well.

The transformation is a little complex, and the instructions, at least to me, were not very helpful, so it might be a good idea to find a YouTube video where someone talks you through it and points out the spots to be careful with. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. As a blocky 80s toy, it’s not as much of a sleek wedge as the animation model, but that’s part of the charm.Pose the figure out with the included Matrix of Leadership and attach the energy effect to recreate this classic movie moment. They include storage for all accessories in vehicle mode except the matrix, they sort of just pile on top of the car but it is nice that it is included. ICONIC MODES: Figure features classic conversion between robot and licensed Lamborghini Centenario modes in 26 steps. It’s mixed with small bits of fiery orange, a yellow spoiler, chrome silver pipes and engine blocks, and a clear blue cockpit, with a sculpted interior (which doesn’t open, sadly).
