The brewhouse in the Marsstraße in Munich was closed due to a lack of workload in 2006 and is now the museum of the company. Instead, it focussed on the wheatiness and did it better than that other wheaty wheat beer, Erdinger Weißbier.

Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Naturtrüb is a natural and elegant white beer protagonist from Bavaria with a lush white foam. It only says where on the bottle to find the ‘best before’ date, but because it does so in several different languages, it’s the length of a medium sized paragraph. It has malts from both wheat and barley as well as local hops from Munich which, along with the top fermenting yeast strain and its own well 200m below to provide the water, result in a top quality beer with great ingredients leading to a superb taste.

About half-way through, and Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier is as rich and smooth as I’d hoped, with no lingering bitterness.
